The Theta Tau chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha was colonized on September 10, 1978 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The 42 members of the Charter Pledge Class were initiated into Zeta Tau Alpha on February 10th, 1979. From these small beginnings, the Theta Tau Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha has grown to include over 150 motivated women.
Theta Tau maintains a strong presence among the other Zeta chapters in the country, as well as among the other Panhellenic chapters on campus. This past year, Theta Tau was presented with the 2011 Panhellenic Chapter of the Year award at UNC's Greek Awards Banquet. Theta Tau has received this award for 3 of the last 4 years.
At the 2010 bi-annual Zeta Tau Alpha convention held in New Orleans, the Teta Tau chapter received the Helen Margaret Harrison Award, which is presented to the number one colleigate Zeta chapter in the nation. The chapter is recognized for maintaining high degrees of excellence in all areas of fraternity life.
